Logbook rules last revised 22 September 2026.

| What Burl pencils in | Why Burl writes it | Stays in the logbook until |
|---|---|---|
| Nickname | What the road calls you in the game | Until you strike the line out by deleting the account |
| Email address | Matching you to your logbook line when you come back to log in | Until you strike the line out by deleting the account |
| Password hash | Letting the depot check your login without ever holding the password | Until you strike the line out by deleting the account |
| Sign-up date | Support replies from the depot desk, and handling abuse | Until you strike the line out by deleting the account |
Nothing else is written in. Burl never asks for your real name, your home address, your date of birth, your phone number or any payment detail; the road sells nothing, so the depot would have nothing to do with them. Your password reaches the logbook only as a one-way hash. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (keeping the account you asked Burl to open). Deleting your account strikes all of it out immediately; the button waits on your account page.
| What Burl pencils in | Its job on the road | Stays in the logbook until |
|---|---|---|
| Coin tally, level, missions and your reel settings | Picking your run up at the last lantern you passed | Until this browser’s data is swept clear |
| Age confirmation | Not stopping you with the same question at every lamp post | Until this browser’s data is swept clear |
| Cookie choice | Noting down your cookie answer | Until this browser’s data is swept clear |
All of it stays parked on your own device, and none of it is hauled across to us.
Wave “Accept all” through and Google Analytics and Google Ads tags start logging visits to the road and checking whether one of our adverts brought you out to play, a first spin for instance. Google is then sent your IP address, device information and those events. Wave “Essential only” instead and the same tags idle in consent mode, setting no cookies and carrying no advertising identifiers. Lawful basis: consent.
Like a gatekeeper’s sheet at the depot, our host keeps standard request logs for security, and only for a short spell. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Whenever you like, you may access, correct, erase or restrict what the logbook holds, object to processing and withdraw consent. Deleting the account from your account page strikes its data out at once; clearing this site’s data in your browser sweeps away whatever is left in the cab. Complaints can go to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Winter Road Lantern is for adults aged 19 or over. The coins stacked on Burl’s depot counter carry no monetary value, and not one of them can be bought, sold, withdrawn or exchanged. From the depot stove to the far-shore lantern there is no coin shop and no payment page, no prize of real-world value hangs from any lamp pole, and success here does not imply future success at real-money gambling.
